Get it Together Tuesday: Mistress in the Making

This is the shameless plug blog.  I have a new story coming out tomorrow. “Mistress in the Making” will be available from Ellora’s Cave. I’m very excited for you to read this story; it is one of my favorite things I’ve written.

In it, eldest sister, Charlotte makes some tough and sometimes stupid decisions in her attempt to help her family. So let me ask you, what are some stupid things you’ve done for love? C’mon, you know you’ve done them. Fess up.  I’ll go first.

My stupid thing was that I didn’t study abroad my junior year of college. I’d been dating my guy for 2 years, and it seemed too devastating to leave for 6 months. We told ourselves we’d travel when we married.

We did eventually get married (still are), and we have traveled internationally, but it is a totally different experience than living in a foreign country on your own for several months. I definitely regret not going. Our relationship was strong enough to withstand the time apart. And I’ll never be 20 with no children again. What about you? Ever do anything stupid in the name of love?

In high school I loved a boy so much it hurt, but, alas, he wasn’t interested. I mooned after him for years. Then one summer we hung out. He followed me home one night and made a declaration of love in the middle of the street in front of my house. (To this day, my most romantic moment ever – shhh don’t tell the hubby.) Fast forward two weeks, I’m trying to figure out how to dump him softly because after years of wanting to be with him, the real him couldn’t hold a candle to my fantasy him. Does that count?

Oh, that counts. Most of the dumb-love things we do are in high school because teenagers as a rule are overly emotional and hormonal.
